Everclear's Art Alexakis brought his Songs & Stories tour to Charlotte's McGlohon Theater on May 22nd. Marcy Playground's John Wozniak, Eve 6's Max Collins, and Fountains Of Wayne's Chris Collingwood accompanied him for an evening of witty banter, soul-bearing tales, and killer tunes.
As Alexakis told us in our interview with him back in April, here's how the show worked: each singer performed a thirty-minute solo set and the four would perform on stage together between the solo performances. After the final cover song (an Art Alexakis-led version of The Band's "The Weight"), the four opened up the floor for a Q&A and requests.
It was a great idea and an even greater show. All four guys sounded awesome, had interesting stories to tell, and had a great dynamic. Along the way, fans were treated to many of each band's hits like "Sex And Candy," "Inside Out," "Stacy's Mom," and a plethora of Everclear hits like "Santa Monica," "Father Of Mine," "Wonderful," and more.
This was an amazing show and we didn't want the evening to end. Here are some of our favorite moments from the night:
- The aforementioned cover of The Band's "The Weight."
- Art performing "Strawberry" and later telling the story behind it.
- The four guys covering R.E.M.'s "Don't Go Back To Rockville."
- John Wozniak's interpretive dance while Chris Collingwood perfromed "Stacy's Mom."
- Art's stories about his mom.
We had a great time and encourage everyone that has a chance to see this tour to get their tickets today! Here are the remaining tour dates:
