Seeking Myrtle Beach's Grand Strange is a ten-part series by author Jim MacKenzie where he visits and writes about strange attractions in the Myrtle Beach area. In this installment, MacKenzie checks out the Kwik-E-Mart.
What would happen if the two-dimensional world of cartoons leapt off the page and into our three-dimensional, five-fingered lives? It would be something like visiting the real Kwik-E-Mart in Myrtle Beach.
We finally figured out which state the Simpsons home of Springfield is in, and apparently, it’s South Carolina. Myrtle Beach to be exact. Well, at least the Kwik-E-Mart is there. It’s located right next to the Aztec Theater at Broadway at the Beach. The Aztec is a Simpsons 4-D theater experience that begins every fifteen minutes.
Following the movie, head next door to the Kwik-E-Mart for some Squishees and Lard Lad Donuts. It’s like taking a step into the artistic drawings of Matt Groening. The famous Springfrield convenience store sells plenty of Simpsons collectibles, including clothing, toys, refreshments, and smaller things like keychains.
The best part is experiencing in real life a favorite location you've been visiting in cartoons for decades. After all, it has served one of America's favorite animated families since its first appearance in 1990.
This is a must-see attraction for anyone who has called themselves a fan of The Simpsons. And that is pretty much all of us.
Thank you, come again.
