Is it windy in here or is it just Claudio? What better way to kick off your week then going to see Coheed & Cambria? The line at the Ritz was filling with pure excitement. Packed in a line of humidity and bald head sweat, I spent some time talking to the people of the crowd. We spoke of our favorite songs of Coheed. Can’t forget the conversations of Coheed having “Welcome Home” in the animated movie 9, killing the 6-string (with 5 colored buttons in Rock Band and Guitar Hero) as kids, and to some of our favorite songs! We all raved about our favorite t-Shirts in the crowd as we saw different generations of fans.
Olivia Jean was first to the stage! Awesome band with a style that I couldn’t help but think of The Addams Family. In the best way. This band was incredible from the Funk sound, to a bit of a punk sound, they jammed and interacted with fans and us photographers in the front. After their set, Olivia Jean hung out at the merch booth, taking pictures with fans, and enjoying the following bands!
Next was Teenage Mortgage. This two-man band freaking killed it! At first they had a sound issue with too much feedback, but once it was all tuned out, they came back even more pumped to rock out. I couldn’t look away from the drummer's drum set. This thing was vibrant pink and just freaking awesome! The lead singer/guitarist had this really cool style. The music really took me back to a Thraasher phase. Im talking anarchy rebel teenager, skipping class, and skateboarding where we probably shouldn’t have. They were great!
Anticipation is a small word for what was building. Coheed & Cambria was next and all of us with long hair were ready to let loose! The guys walked on stage to “The Dark Sentencer” followed by “Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial).” The screams of the crowd were raving! I for one could not stop smiling. This was a band I’ve always had a spot in my heart for! My Fellow New Yorkers! Coheed & Cambria played some hit songs from newer albums to the very first. To bring the show to an end was “Welcome Home.” Truly an experience you should not miss out on. These bands were amazing.
